Rise and Teach with Keeran Sivarajah

The 7th Instalment of Rise Up with Leader Series, Rise and Teach with Keeran Sivarajah was held on 20th of February 2016. Mr. Keeran currently serves as a consultant at Boston Consulting Group. He was the co-founder for Teach For Malaysia. Themed “Engaging Youth For Societal Impact”, this event was organised with aims to provide opportunities for students to learn and explore the values, qualities and experiences of Mr. Keeran Sivarajah. This event also acts as a platform for students to expand their network with such distinguished leader and like-minded student leaders.

During the sharing session, Mr. Keeran shared his experiences on how he started Teach For Malaysia and how he overcome all the obstacles faced. Frightening statistics depicting children without education opportunities across the globe were shown. Mr. Keeran talked about how youth should engage to create impact in the society and how to be an efficient leader.

The exclusive interview session was facilitated by Shu Han on stage. A strong advocate of holistic learning, Mr. Keeran said: “To be successful, you must have scary dreams, be beyond yourself and be perseverant.”

The event was followed by a very engaging Question and Answer (Q&A) session as we had several participants who voiced out their concerns on the state of education and asked Mr. Keeran for his insights on current issues concerning the education sector.

Of course, we did not miss out a photography session with Mr. Keeran after that.

At the end of the programme, Mr. Keeran visited the booth by Hands Of Hope. Paintings by artist Felicia See, ukuleles and postcards were sold in order to raise funds. All funds will be channelled directly to the education of children from underserved communities. Hands of Hope shares the same goal with Teach For Malaysia: to bring change through education, especially among the underserved communities.
