U-SchoS’ Leadership Lecture Series 2015

This year’s U-SchoS’ Leadership Lecture Series (ULLS) was organised in line with UCSI University’s scholars’ club’s objective of continuously inculcating strong leadership values among young leaders in Malaysia.

Led by distinguished corporate, industry and community figures, the event was a platform for students throughout the country to gain insight on how the speakers impacted their respective fields.

Students were given the chance to interact with the speakers. It is hoped that this experience will inspire Malaysian youths to make a positive impact in the community as well.

Guest of Honour Yang Berhormat Senator Datuk Paul Low Sen Kuan, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department delivered as inspiring keynote speech titled “The Power of Leadership”.

With other notable speakers like Mr. Raj Kumar Ganeson, Mr. Michael Teoh and Mr. Mark Koh on hand, the third ULLS had successfully attracted approximately 3oo participants from both public and private higher learning institutions in the country.

 

On Day One, first masterclass with the topic, “Making an Impact”, was conducted by Mr. Raj Kumar Ganeson, the Vice President of Global Consulting at UCSI Blue Ocean Strategy Consulting.

 

Three parallel sessions were conducted separately after that. These workshops were led by Teach for Malaysia featuring Miss Goh Jing Pei and Mr. Kevin Tham, UCSI Leadership Development Center featuring Mr. Warren Chant and Jobstreet, featuring Mr Edmund Teh, who spoke on the topics of “Setting an Example to be Followed”, “Working Your Way Towards Success” and “Small Steps to a Big Career”, respectively.

“Leading Positive Change”, was the topic for a leadership forum lead by Miss Lily Cheah from Leadernomics, Miss Goh Jing Pei from Teach For Malaysia, and Dr. Hartini from Yayasan Chow Kit.

 

On Day Two, the second leadership forum featured the topic “Attitude is the Key to Success”, which featured Wing K. Lee from YTL Communications, Mallory Loone of Thriving Talents, Leong Hoo Yin of Espressolab and Mark Koh of Pestle & Mortar.

 

A masterclass entitled “Be the Change You Want to See” was given by Michael Teoh.

There was also an award presentation ceremony for Malaysia’s Top 10 Most Impactful Young Leaders Award – nominated and voted by Malaysian students – between 16 and 25 years old – from local and private institutions of higher learning in Malaysia.

The winners included Tunku Zain Al-‘Abidin Tuanku Muhriz, founding president, Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS); Bryan Loo, CEO, Chatime Malaysia; Cheryl Yeoh, CEO, Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre (MaGIC); Joel Neoh, founder and former CEO, Groupon Malaysia; Keeran Sivarajah, Co-founder & former CEO, Teach for Malaysia, John-Son Oei, founder an d CEO, EPIC Collaborative; Michael Teoh Su Lim, founder, Thriving Talents Sdn Bhd; Ruth Yeoh, Director, YTL-SV Carbon Pte Ltd, Jazz Tan, CEO, Youthstoday.com and Timothy Tiah, co-founder, Netccentric Pte Ltd.

 

The positive feedback and reviews we’ve gotten from the participants after attending the two-day event is proof that U-SchoS had successfully staged a well-received event.
