On the 15th of January 2016, U-Schos Night, themed “The Red Carpet” was held at Le Quadri Ballroom in UCSI University. Approximately 120 UCSI University students gathered for the very first U-Schos Night event held.
U-Schos Night was mainly a night of appreciation to all the individuals who had contributed their time and efforts for U-Schos. The event also aimed to foster the relationship among all the scholars and students of UCSI University as most of them are oblivious about each other’s existence. Here, we stand united as people with similar goals, which is to be somebody someday.
The event started with an opening performance by one of our music scholars, Maxy Chan. Maxy played two stunning pieces from the movies entitled Up and Ratatouille.
The event then proceeded with the U-Schos Memoir, in which videos were played to showcase what U-Schos have accomplished thus far. Following the memoir was a warm welcoming speech by the President of U-Schos, Bernard Chin.
After that, we had a few more amazing performances to entertain the audience. One of the many performances was a street dance, presented by a dance crew known as ‘Omnistepkers’.
We also had yet another one of UCSI University’s scholars, Liew Shu Qing, to perform “Flowerdance” by DJ Okawari on the piano.
Our international students from Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan who formed a group ‘SoWat?’ also made an appearance on the stage that night with a graceful waltz dance.
The medley of performances was wrapped up with a singing performance by Nurul Aina Abd. Ghani. She sang a mash-up of One Direction and Taylor Swift songs, and also one of her originals!
In between performances, a series of U-Schos Red Carpet Awards such as ‘Best Facial Expression Award’, ‘Best Red Carpet Pose Award’, ‘Best Hairstyle Award’, and ‘Best Dressed Award’ were given out.
Tokens of appreciation were also presented to the guests and VIPs who attended the event that night.
Also present at the event were YB Prof. Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Haji Zainuddin (Director, De Institute of Creative Arts and Design), Ms. Phng Li Kim (Kechara Media & Publications), Ms. Phng Li Kheng (Kechara Forest Retreat), Mr. David Yap (Press Secretary to YB Senator Datuk Paul Low, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office), Mr. Ramesh Vadiveloo (Meals For All), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Toh Kian Kok (Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Quality Assurance and Enhancement), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mabel Tan (Director, Centre for Pre-U Studies), Ir. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jimmy Mok (Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Technology and Built Environment), Asst. Prof. Dr. Ammar A. M. Al-Talib ((Head, Postgraduate & Research, Faculty of Engineering, Technology and Built Environment), Dr. John Tan ((Head of Department, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, FETBE) and last but not least, Mr. Ronald Khoo (Mango Chilli).
The night wrapped up with a closing speech by the Organising Chairperson of U-Schos Night, Soon En Suen.
Of course, we did not let everybody home until after the photography session!
