In line with the objectives of UCSI Scholars’ Circle (U-Schos) to continuously inculcate strong leadership values among the young leaders in the university and also in the country, U-Schos Leadership Lecture Series (ULLS) 2016 created yet another exciting theme this year. Themed “LEADnovate the Future”, the 4th episode of the annual event commenced on the 18th till 19th of June at Le Quadri Ballroom of UCSI University (North Wing).
The first day of the event began with the arrival of the VIPs and guests at 9.30am, and later a welcoming speech by the President of U-Schos, Bernard Chin. It was later followed by an opening speech addressed by none other than Senior Professor Dato’ Dr Khalid Yusoff, the Vice-Chancellor and President of UCSI University.
Guest of Honour Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Panglima Madius Tangau, Malaysia’s Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation delivered the Keynote Address, entitled “Innovation: The Way Forward”.
“Innovation is consequential. It empowers us and changes the way we see and do things. It’s happening all around us.” said YB Madius.
Malaysia’s Top 10 Most Innovative Young Leaders Award 2016
The event then proceeded with the Awards Presentation Ceremony of “Malaysia’s Top 10 Most Innovative Young Leaders Award 2016” – nominated by young leaders of Malaysia aged between 17 to 25 years old from public and private learning institutions.
The 10 awardees of the ceremony were none other than Alina Amir, Co-Founder of Arus Academy; Andrew Yong, Group CEO and Co-Founder of 100% Project; Anthony Tan, Group CEO and Co-Founder of Grab; Dr Rajiv Bhanot, Managing Director and Founder of H20 Project; Faeez Fadhlillah, CEO and Co-Founder of Tripfez; Francesca Chia, Co-Founder of GoGet.my; Kuhan Pathy, Founder of Masala Wheels; Rashvin Pal Singh, Co-Founder of Biji-biji Initiatives; Teoh Wee Kiat, Co-Founder of MyBurgerlab; and Zikry Kholil, Founder of Incitement.
The awardees shed some light on how important passion is in making a difference in our lives besides sharing a glimpse of their journey in becoming who they are today.

“LEADnovate the Future”
Fabien Bouhier, the Agency Relationship Manager of Google gave an eye-catching presentation on the innovative initiatives taken by Google itself in-line with ULLS 2016 theme, “LEADnovate the Future”. Live demos were done by Mr. Fabien and the participants were definitely engaged!
The first Masterclass session was conducted by Mr. Ashran Ghazi, the Chief Execution Officer of MaGIC with the topic “Leadership in the Age of Innovation”. On the next day, Mr. Raj Kumar Ganeson, the Chief Executive Officer of UCSI Consulting Group shared his thoughts on the topic “Be a BOS”. Mr. Raj Kumar joined us for the second time consecutively as one our speakers for ULLS.
Both Masterclass speakers were presented tokens of appreciation after their respective sessions.
The afternoon of each day kicked start with lightbulb sessions. Participants get to select their speakers of preference between three options of speakers.
Our LEADnovators for Lightbulb Session Day 1 were: Timothy Tiah (Netccentric) – “The Online Revoloution”, Edmond Yap (EduNation) – “Recreating Possibilities” and Rashvin Pal Singh (Biji-biji Initiative) – “Creating Impact by Supporting Impact”.
Day two of ULLS 2016 featured LEADnovators namely: Dr. Prathaban Raju (Door2Door Doctor) – “Healing Hands Healing Hearts”, Rubén Cortés (Build For Tomorrow) – “Innovate for Sustainability”, and Dato’ CC Ngei (Feruni Ceramiche) – “Taking a Leap in Innovation”.
Thoughts from LEADnovators of various industries were merged during the forum sessions which were the last programme for both days. On day 1 of ULLS 2016, participants had the opportunity to meet Dr. Renard Siew (Sime Darby), Lua Jes Min (recomN.com), Rashvin Pal Singh (Biji-biji Initiative) and Cheah Chang Ming (myBurgerLab) who shared their thoughts about the topic “The Future We Want To See”.
The second day of ULLS 2016 featured Rubén Cortés (Build For Tomorrow), Dr. Prathaban Raju (Door2Door Doctor), Andrew Yong (100% Project) and Anne Marie (Do Something Good) who exchanged views and points in Forum II entitled “Changing Lives Through LEADnovation”.
Other Event Highlights
Not to forget we also had amazing performances throughout the two days. On the first day, Nurul Aina was accompanied by Sylvia Wong while she sang us two songs. Kim Lim and Tan Yin Thong mesmerised the crowd with a beautiful piece to kick-start the second day of ULLS 2016.
Participants had the opportunity to win some freebies through the interactive session and giveaway contest. Entitled “LEADnovate the Moment”, participants played three rounds of games namely “Kahoot!”, “Guess the Meaning” and “Flash Slides”.
The Giveaway contest on the other hand required participants to snap pictures with the event backdrop outside the hall and upload pictures onto Facebook with the most catchy caption they can think of.
The event came to an end with a closing speech by both of the Vice Organizing Chairpersons of ULLS 2016, Chee An Yong and Hong Ju Yin.
Of course we did not miss out a group picture!
