Lee was born to a motorcycle shop owner and a homemaker in the humble surroundings of Alor Setar, Kedah, Malaysia. Lee’s childhood saw her actively participating in singing competitions, various sports activities and then being elected the head of her school’s drama club at the Keat Hwa Secondary School.
At 19, Lee was discovered by Taiwanese actress, singer, writer, producer and director Sylvia Chang during an audition in Kuala Lumpur, where Lee submitted her photos.
Lee’s big break came when the Pang Brothers, a film company in Hong Kong, saw Angelica on MTV. At that time, the Pang Brothers wanted to make a horror film entitled, ‘The Eye’. They found Angelica suitable to play the leading role; a blind woman who received supernatural sight from a donor. Her impressive performance in the horror movie earned her many international awards.
